Idle doodling

Well, this came together more quickly than I thought.
Initially started out painting a tartan..didn't like how it was going, removed a few layers..and for some reason, started outlining fruits.

So, this is what I got. I like the not-quite-neon outlining. Reminds me a bit of a weird picnic layout.

Close but not quite

8 minutes over midnight.
Well, that means that today'll be 2 posts.

But, sometimes you just can't rush things.

Ah well.

Most people will recognize The Joker.. owned by DC Comics, nemesis of Batman, created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger (and to cover my ass, just in case), Jerry Robinson.

Below is, The Joker, smiling away in a prison-issue straight-jacket.

Late post

Yes folks, we gots us another late post on our hands.

It's almost done, but won't be done before the midnight deadline.
I expect to be done before 1am, but 1am isn't before 12am, now it is? (except numerically & alphabetically)

So, I guess tomorrow..technical-tomorrow, will be a double post.

At the end of the tunnel

I'd like to say I've got a good chance at this job I got a call about today.
I'd like to, but I won't. It really comes down to either I'll get it or I won't. Sure, there's some things I can do to help me along one route or the other, but ultimately, the decision is the recruiter's, not mine.
And I am okay with that.. .....for now. Heheheh.

I had thought of doing another pin-up type image.. I wanted to do something more halloween-y, but there's plenty of days left to get that stuff done.
So.. yeah, I'm not sure what exactly brough this out.. but here it is.

More Zombies

So, it turns out my interpretation of the contest was wrong.. so I have to replace the zombie goldfish..  the image below took me too long, in my opinion, to finish. I went through about 5 different ideas before settling on this one.

I love the laundromat. Usually it's quiet when I go to do my laundry..and I get weird flashes of inspiration from being there. Asked the lady behind the counter and the gal she was talking with to tell me the first thing that comes to mind when you think of `adorable, harmless critter`..they rambled off a few.. ones I would have tossed out of hand if I had thought of them. Sometimes, you miss a good idea because you think of it, but when someone else brings it up, it shows itself as the good idea it is.

So.. zombie turtle..and monster zombie turtle.

Zombies, baby

Anyone who knows me will be able to tell you that I love zombies.
I once got into a pretty neat theological debate with a missionary pastor about how Christians should absolutely love the general idea of zombies. Hey, Jesus is a zombie. Think of it like this: the modern-day zombie is classified by 1 thing, really: It's something that has died..and come back to life. That's Jesus.

Sure, you can get into nitpicky things.. or slap more fences around what a zombie is or isn't.. but it always comes back to dying, and then no longer being dead. The word 'resurrection' invokes a very religious sense to lots of folks, and while I'm not trying to get into anything theological here.. I just thought it was an interesting idea to talk to this guy about. He's very knowledgable about lots of things, most theological, but man did I get his pricklies up with this idea.

I guess it's because zombies are ingrained as mindless monsters, bent on eating people, or their brains..or both. Then there's the whole Haitian thing about the zonbi and being someone's mindless slave..

Well, today I lucked out. Over on Sketchoholic (the same guys who do Schoolism classes) they've got a contest on.. the prize is membership points or something...but the contest is to take our everyday adorable whatevers and zombify them.
So I did this - and dontcha know?? Corel Painter Essentials 4 didn't crap out on me. I have the same programs open that I had yesterday, a couple more, actually.. so more resources are being used.. and it's not crapping out on me. I am pleasantly surprised.

So.. I decided to take one of our most harmless adorable whatevers and slap that zombie-taint all over it.

Not the Happy

So, yeah. I am pissed off with Corel. There's no updates I can find (and I've looked) for Corel Painter Essentials 4.. the thing crashes on a whim, and sometimes the default save-shortcut doesn't work either. I lost an hour & a half's work for a contest.. NOT happy.

While photoshop is nice and all.. Painter Essentials has wonderful brush-stroke recreations that photoshop simply doesn't have. So I'm going to either luck out and find some free PS brush packs someone's made that replicate the ones in PE..or I'm going to have to make them myself. Not happy about that idea, either.

The worst part is that I can't seem to duplicate the icing-look I had in PE using various combinations of PS's gear. I might have missed something.. but still.

Anyhow.. the the Sketch-o-Daily's contest theme was `birthday creature`.. so this is what I made. .....sans the children-on-sticks as snacks for the thing.
